Every LightBurn license comes with 3 seats. You can purchase additional seats for your license at a reduced price.
What's a seat, and how does the license work?
Each seat lets you activate LightBurn on one computer at a time, so a 10-seat key can be activated on 10 machines at one time. Activations aren't permanent — you can release a seat from an old computer and use it on a new one. We offer a special Floating license option that allows unlimited activations, but limits concurrent use to the number of seats on the license. Floating licenses are available at minimum of 10 seats.
Your key arrives by email as a string of letters and numbers, like this (non-working) example: 123456-7890AB-CDEF09-876543-210ACE. Paste it into LightBurn to activate. The license is yours permanently, and includes a year of free updates. After a year, you can choose to renew to continue receiving updates for another year.
If you renew before your key expires, you'll receive an additional two months on your one-year renewal.
If you choose not to renew, you will always be able to continue using the most recent version of LightBurn that is compatible with your operating system and was released within your license's valid update period.
A bulk purchase gives you one key covering all your seats, not a separate key per machine.

Fixed vs. Floating licenses — which do you need?
Fixed licenses are tied to a specific computer when activated. You can release a seat and move it to a different computer at any time through the in-app License Management Window, our online license portal, or by emailing support. Offline activations available for machines without internet access. You can system-lock a fixed license to allow all users on the same computer to use the key. This is the right choice for most buyers.
Floating licenses share seats from a pool rather than tying them to specific computers, which suits shared labs. A room of 100 license-activated computers used by 30 people at a time needs only 30 floating seats. There's a 10-seat minimum, and floating keys need a constant internet connection to stay active. Given the restrictive nature of school networks and internet access, this can sometimes be a challenge.
Floating licenses must be installed exactly as described in our documentation — a floating key will not work if installed as a standard fixed license.
